  • Print out a tax checklist such as one here to help you gather all the necessary documents needed to file properly.
  • Keep all tax-related documents that come in the mail. Be sure to carefully distinguish your mail to avoid throwing out any tax-related documents.
  • Sort through all of the receipts collected throughout the past year.
  • Group similar documents and file them into separate folders such as: pay stubs, W-2s, 1099s, interest statements, dividend statements, medical expenses, etc.
